Art as Truth: Insights from the Colombian Peace Process – 9 June, 2022 10 am

A day of artistic events surrounding the launch of the Colombian Truth Commission’s Final Report.

Organisers: Colombian Truth Commission, Camilo Ardila-Arévalo, Ioana Popescu.

By exploring the work of the Colombian Truth Commission, this event aims to showcase the artistic dimension of truth-seeking.

As part of the peace agreements between the Colombian Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in 2016, the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-repetition was given the mission of collecting testimonies and data in order to issue a report on the origins, patterns and consequences of the armed conflict in Colombia.

The work of the Commission focused not only on factual truth(s), but also on exploring the personal perception of traumatic events through art-based projects and collaborations with people affected by the armed conflict in Colombia. We hope that this trans-disciplinary event will raise awareness of the importance of truth-seeking through artistic expression in the wake of mass atrocities and that it will inspire new projects and open innovative research avenues.
