CRITIQUE Reads – January 31, 2024, 3pm
Our reading group Critique Reads will be meeting on Wednesday 31st January at 3pm-4pm in room 3.15 of the Chrystal Macmillan Building for our first session of the semester.
We’ll be reading a classic book by the anthropologist and political scientist James C. Scott, Seeing Like a State: How Certain Schemes to Improve the Human Condition have Failed. For University of Edinburgh staff and students, the text is available online through the library, and for our initial meeting we’ll read the Introduction and the first chapter on Nature and Space, pp. 1–52.
The group will be coordinated by Tom O’Shea this term, who can be contacted at tom.oshea@ed.ac.uk
All are welcome and we look forward to seeing many of you there!
